If you know me, you know my love for Uruguay, my adopted part-time home.
The coastline of Uruguay from Rocha to Maldonado is part of the migratory path of the Southern Right Whale (amongst other sea animals) from mid-June to October.
I have had the honor of meeting two extraordinary people
who have shared their love of marine life, are true stewards of the ocean
and who have organized a grassroots organization, Renace
Renace’s objective is to create a network of nodes along the Uruguayan coast
to assist whales and other cetaceans that become stranded.
The nodes are local groups formed by the community
in the immediate proximity of the strandings.
This gives the community local knowledge and early response capacity to assist
until public security officials (prefecture, firefighters, police, lifeguards),
government officials, professionals, and veterinarians can arrive.
It is an honor to be able to support this cause which is local, directly impactive
and where 100% of donations are utilized for the education
and implementation of the project.
